How sad is the Sunbelt Conference?
Of the nine 'football teams' that comprise the Sunbelt Conference, there have been only 11 wins so far this season!
By comparison both the Mid-American East and West (with only 6 teams each) has won 11 games in each division!
And the Whole SEC with 12 teams has won 39 games... The 6 teams in the SEC East have won a combined 22 games - double the numbers of wins of the 9 teams in the Sunbelt.
And that is how MTSU with 3 wins and 2 losses gets ranked #1 in the conference!

In some ways it is typical of those conferences though. Think about, who does the SEC, ACC etc call on when theywant to get some warm up teams? The Big 12? Nah. Call the Sunbelt or some other such conference.
We have a guy in our church who lettered at ETSU and is now an SEC official. He speaks very fondly of having played "small" college football. I personally love going to watch the mid-majors and smaller colleges play.
I like the 'smaller' conferences too. It keeps things interesting. The thing is, they're not all small colleges. Middle Tennessee State is, by enrollment numbers, the largest Univerity in the State of Tennessee! I think it was the spring of '05 when MTSU's enrollment passed UT's. Why do folks continue to think of MT as a 'small college' when we're a major univerity? Because our football team stinks, that's why:)
People have the same misconception about UCF and USF as well. UCF either already has or will soon surpass UF in enrollment. I think the problem it still has to shake is the image of the "commuter" college.
Now THIS is the MTSU Blue Raiders (or whatever the PC police have decided to name the team) football team that I knew and (tolerated) when I was in school in tyhe late 70's.
Yeah, LP, same with MT.
Tn Rambler, thanks, they're still the Blue Raiders.. and you're telling your age there aren't you?
